Natives in N.B. defy orders to stop fishing
Thursday, October 23, 2003

Fishermen from the Elsipogtog First Nation in New Brunswick say they won't stop fishing despite being raided by the federal government.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans seized boats and equipment early Tuesday morning. The government says the action was necessary because of low fish runs.

But tribal members went back on the waters of the Richibucto River, saying they have a treaty right to fish.
