Alaska rushing to document Native hunting sites
Wednesday, October 29, 2003

The state of Alaska is rushing to document hundreds of Native hunting sites because of development that could occur.

The Tangle Lakes region is known to contain hunting sites and artifacts dating back thousands of years. But the state also believes the area can be mined for platinum, nickel, copper and other metals.

More than 200,000 acres in the region were recently transferred from the Bureau of Land Management to the state.
