Schwarzenegger lobbies for Interior budget bill
Thursday, October 30, 2003

California Governor-elect Arnold Schwarzenegger met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill on Wednesday to lobby for the Department of Interior's $20 billion budget bill, which includes $3 billion for firefighting but also delays a court-ordered accounting of the Indian trust.

The firefighting money has become critical in light of deadly fires in California. But a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the House is launching a campaign to reject the entire bill due to the trust fund language.

The House will take up the bill this morning.
