N.M. water plan seeks to protect Indian rights
Thursday, December 11, 2003

The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission released a new version of the state water plan that respects the senior water rights of tribes and other users.

Tribes had complained that the draft plan did not recognize their rights. The revision states, "Nothing in the State Water Plan will impair or limit the claims that these senior water-rights holders assert."

The plan also calls on the state to look for additional water supplies.
