Conn. officials discuss tribal issues with AG
Friday, December 12, 2003

Leaders of three towns in Connecticut who have fought tribes on land-into-trust, federal recognition and other issues met with the state attorney general on Thursday.

The towns of Ledyard, Preston and North Stonington are located next to the Mashantucket Pequot Reservation and the Eastern Pequot Reservation. They were part of an unsuccessful lawsuit that sought to prevent the Mashantuckets from seeking new trust lands. Currently, they are appealing the federal recognition of the Eastern Pequots.

Ledyard's new mayor is Susan Mendenhall. According to The New London Day, yesterday's meeting was meant to bring her up to date on tribal issues in the region.
