Goshute Tribe seeks to bar IRS enforcement

The Skull Valley Goshute Tribe of Utah is asking a federal judge to stop the IRS from seeking information about a tribal enterprise.

The IRS filed a request for an enforcement order against Starlike Properties, in which the Goshutes share an interest. But lawyers for the tribe say the IRS already closed the matter by seeking $4.4 million in back taxes and $886,523 in penalties.

The IRS is trying to figure out why chairman Leon Bear, who has pleaded not guilty to six counts of theft and fraud, bought the company to invest into the Japanese yen futures market.
