Tribes using wildlife grants for various projects

Tribes in Montana, Wyoming, Utah and California are among the recipients of $14 million in federal grants to help endangered, threatened and other wildlife on tribal lands.
In Montana, the Fort Belknap Tribes, the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes, the
Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, the Chippewa Cree Tribe and the Blackfeet Nation received money. In Wyoming, the Shoshone and Arapaho tribes were awarded a grant.
In California, the Twentynine Palms Band of Mission Indians received $216,995 to preserve native species in a sacred area.
Interior Secretary Gale Norton announced the grants as part of the Tribal Landowner Incentive Program and the Tribal Wildlife Grant Program.
