Canada
Another 'nation' recognized within Canada

The Canadian Parliament passed a motion that recognizes the Qubcois as a "nation" within Canada.

The Assembly of First Nations is worried the motion will have an effect on First Nations, whose rights are recognized by the Canadian Constitution. AFN Chief Phil Fontaine wants Prime Minister Stephen Harper to clarify that Native rights won't be affected.

Canada recognizes about 640 First Nations.
