Billie vows fight to get on Seminole Tribe ballot

Jim Billie, the former chairman of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, is vowing a court fight to get on the tribe's upcoming ballot.

Billie was ousted as chairman in 2003, after more than 20 years of leading the tribe. He is trying to make a comeback but the tribal council says he doesn't meet residency requirements to hold public office.

Billie is appealing the decision, his lawyer said. But if that fails, he says he will file a lawsuit in federal court to stop the May 16 election.

Billie was removed by the tribal council in 2003 after 23 years as leader. He faced questions about his financial dealings but was never charged with any wrongdoing.
