NCAA won't budge on North Dakota's 'Fighting Sioux' nickname

The NCAA isn't budging from its view that the "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo at the University of North Dakota is "hostile" and "abusive" to Indian people.

But that isn't stopping Republicans from trying to convince the NCAA to change its mind. House Leader Al Carlson will meet with the organization later this month to make the case for keeping the name and logo.

The NCAA has made an exception for symbols that are supported by namesake tribes. The Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation supports the nickname and logo but the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe does not.
