Quechan Nation turns down 'bribe' from Washington NFL team

The Quechan Nation of Arizona refused to accept "bribe money" from the Original Americans Foundation, a tribal member said.

The foundation's representatives offered to build a skate park for the tribe at a meeting yesterday, Eradicating Offensive Native Mascotry said in a press release. They even brought renderings that featured the colors of the Washington NFL team -- burgundy and gold.

“We say, no. There are no questions about this," Kenrick Escalanti said in the press release. "We will not align ourselves with an organization to simply become a statistic in their fight for name acceptance in Native communities. We’re stronger than that and we know bribe money when we see it.”

Escalanti is raising funds for the Quechan Memorial Skatepark. The facility will be located on the Arizona portion of the reservation.
