Eastern Shawnee Tribe makes casino pitch in Ohio

printer friendly
The chief of the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma is in Ohio to lobby for a casino.

Chief Charles Enyart plans to meet with state lawmakers this week. He says Class III gaming will bring jobs and revenue to the state.

Gov. Bob Taft (R) opposes the expansion of gaming. The tribe has hired Taft's former communications director and a state Republican official in hopes of changing his mind.

The tribe is eyeing sites along a major interstate. But a proposed agreement with the city of Monroe was put on hold last night in response to objections from residents and religious groups.
