The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe remains an economic force in Louisiana thanks to its casino.

The Paragon Casino Resort opened in 1994. Since then, the unemployment rate in Avoyelles Parish has fallen from 14.6 percent to 9.4 percent, the lowest in the state.

With 1,500 employees, the casino is also the largest employer in the parish. Property values have risen in the last 20 years and more businesses have moved to the area, The Avoyelles Journal reported.
