The Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians in Oregon broke ground on a new gaming facility.

The $5 million 15,000 square-foot Three Rivers Casino Coos Bay will feature 250 electronic Class II games. It's expected to employ 50 to 60 people when it opens in May 2015, Chairman Bob Garcia told The Coos Bay World.

The facility is being built on land already in trust, the paper said. The site is less than 3 miles from the Mill Casino, a Class III facility owned by the Coquille Tribe.

Some tribes in Oregon explicitly agreed not to open a second casino under their Class III compacts. The restriction would not apply to a Class II facility.

The Coquille Tribe, incidentally, is planning to open a Class II facility in Medford, about 168 miles away from Coos Bay. The land-into-trust application has been controversial.
