BIA, state agree on No Child Left Behind standards

The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the state of New Mexico will use the same No Child Left Behind standards under an agreement signed on Monday.

The agreement requires BIA students in New Mexico to meet the same yearly progress standards as students in state schools. Officials said the agreement will help both school systems meet the mandates of the No Child Left Behind Act.

None of the schools in the Gallup-McKinley County School District met their annual yearly progress standard. The county is home to a significant portion of the Navajo Nation.
