Tribal members killed 11 bison in Montana bison hunt

Tribal members killed a total of 11 bison during the Montana's first bison hunt in 15 years, the Associated Press reports.

Six were killed under licenses issued to members of Montana tribes. Five more were killed by young members of the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho who were exercising their treaty rights and were not subject to state hunting rules.

A total of 16 tribal licenses have been set aside for the eight tribes in the state. The Crow Tribe refused its allocation.

A second hunt, possibly longer and with more licenses, is being planned.
