Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to use grant to fight suicide

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is using a $400,000 federal grant to combat suicide.

The money is coming from the Department of Health and Human Services. It will help fund a mental health outreach program.

The tribe has experienced a high rate of youth suicide. In just two months in late 2004-early 2005, three teenagers and two young people took their lives. During the same time, 30 young people attempted suicide or made a suicide threat.

The tribe's reservation spans the North Dakota and South Dakota border.
