Navajo power plant hearing draws a big crowd

A Bureau of Indian Affairs hearing on the Navajo Nation's proposed power plant drew more than 200 to Farmington, New Mexico.
Tribal members were on both sides of the debate. Opponents said it would harm the environment but supporters cited the jobs the project would bring.
The Navajo Nation partnered with an energy company called Sithe Global to build a $3 billion, 1,500-megawatt foal-fired power plant near Shiprock, New Mexico.
The tribe will share in revenues from the facility.
The BIA is holding more hearings in New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona for the rest of the month. Written comments are due by August 20.
