California appeals BIA approval of Tule River land-into-trust bid

The state of California is fighting the Bureau of Indian Affairs for approving a land-into-trust application for the Tule River Tribe.

The BIA agreed to acquire 40 acres in trust near the Porterville Airport. The tribe entered into an agreement with the city regarding development of the land but that isn't stopping Attorney General Kamala Harris from filing an appeal with the Interior Board of Indian Appeals.

The Coalition of Retailers also filed an appeal.
