Ho-Chunk named Top 500 company by magazine
Monday, October 13, 2003
Ho-Chunk Inc., the economic development corporation of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, has been named a Top 500 company by Inc. Magazine.
"Indian gaming profits provided the $8 million to start this conglomerate, which manages a portfolio of hotels, convenience stores, and gas stations," the magazine writes. "It has since added residential and commercial construction, as well as Internet companies
Indianz.com (news and information) and
AllNative.com (e-commerce)."
With 2002 revenues reported at $67.8 million, the company's growth over the past five years is 731%.
"It's tough to be an entrepreneur and answer to a political body," says CEO Lance Morgan, a tribal member who founded Ho-Chunk in 1994.
The top 500 list is published in the October 14 issue of Inc. Magazine. For more information, visit,
