Editorial: 'Apology' for GRAMMY performance wasn't
Friday, February 13, 2004

The Sioux Falls Argus Leader in an editorial calls on CBS and the producers of the GRAMMYs to come clean about the "insensitive, demeaning and offensive" performance by hip-hop group Outkast.

The paper says an "apology" offered by CBS isn't enough. "Sorry if anyone was offended? Well, a whole lot of people were offended," the paper says.

The paper says the network and the GRAMMYs need to explain how they will prevent exploitation of Indian culture. "One band member wore a headdress, and women danced in green costumes reminiscent of what Donna Reed wore to portray Sacajewa in the old film about Lewis and Clark," the paper observes.
