Judge orders release of White House energy papers

A federal judge ordered the Department of Energy to release documents related to the White House energy task force.

The National Resources Defense Council, an environmental group, and Judicial Watch, a government watchdog organization, have been seeking the records for three years. They want to determine the extent of industry influence on the energy policy the White House released in May 2001.

A separate suit against Vice President Dick Cheney, who headed the task force, is pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. The Bush administration is trying to keep secret industry contacts with the task force.
