Historic status suggested for Haskell campus

FRIDAY, MAY 9, 2003

Haskell Indian Nations University's board of regents has asked school president Karen Swisher to consider having the entire campus designated as National Historic Landmark, The Lawrence Journal-World reports.

Currently, 12 buildings have the status. If the entire campus is declared historic, it could help the school's case against a proposed state highway extension.

The project impacts historic wetlands at Haskell. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has signed off on the project.
