Tigua Tribe to testify at Senate lobbying hearing

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee is holding its second hearing into the lobbying activities of two Washington insiders who received more than $66 million from six tribes.
One of those clients was the Tigua Tribe of Texas, whose leaders will testify tomorrow. The tribe was pressed into hiring Jack Abramoff and Michael Scanlon without knowing the two men worked to have the tribe's casino shut down.
The tribe reportedly gave $4.2 million to Abramoff and Scanlon, who pledged to lobby Washington lawmakers to reopen the casino. The facility was shut down by a federal court and reopened as a Class II establishment.
