Rep. DeLay easily wins GOP primary in Texas
Wednesday, March 8, 2006

Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) easily won the Republican nomination for Congressional District 22 on Tuesday.

DeLay faced four GOP challengers but he won with 61 percent of the vote. His closest rival was Tom Campbell with 30 percent.

DeLay was forced to step down as House majority leader due to his ongoing legal troubles. He has been indicted in Texas for allegedly injecting corporate money into state elections and is said to be under scrutiny by the Department of Justice for his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

The Democratic nominee for the district is former Congressman Nick Lampson.
