Popular Navajo fair in Shiprock kicks off
Wednesday, October 1, 2003

The 92nd Northern Navajo Nation Shiprock Fair officially beings today in Shiprock, New Mexico, and runs through Sunday.

The fair theme is Yei-Be-Chei Traditional Healing and Harvesting. It will feature pow-wows, dancing, rodeos, arts and crafts and plenty of food. A new Miss Northern Navajo will be crowned at the fair. Five young women are competing for the title.

The fair is being run by two entities this year. The groups have battled over control of the popular event and agreed to share power for this year only.
