Navajo Nation voters chose Kerry in Ariz. primary

Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts was the top vote-getter among members of the Navajo Nation, The Navajo Hopi-Observer reports.

Across all counties of the Arizona part of the reservation, Kerry averaged 30 to 40 percent of the vote. Retired Army General Wesley Clark ran second while Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, who ran ads in Navajo, came in third. Clark and Lieberman have since dropped out of the race.

The primary took place February 3. Tribal leaders urged Navajos to get out and vote.
