Janklow loses bid to overturn felony conviction

The South Dakota Supreme Court on Thursday affirmed the felony convictions of Bill Janklow, former South Dakota governor and former U.S. Congressman.

Janklow was convicted of manslaughter and reckless driving for an August 2003 accident that killed a motorcyclist. He was forced to resign from his seat in Congress and spent 100 days in jail.

During his trial, Janklow mounted a "diabetes" defense, saying he wasn't responsible for the accident because he was in a diabetic stupor at the time. The jury disagreed and also relied in Janklow's driving history, which includes stops for speeding and two near-collisions.
