The Miccosukee Tribe of Florida opposes a proposal to designate a critical habitat for an endangered bird.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service wants to protect 71,000 acres as breeding grounds for the Cape Sable seaside sparrow. But the tribe says the proposal would harm another endangered bird and conflict with the $11 billion Everglades restoration effort.

The restoration effort is designed to raise water levels in the Everglades. But the critical habitat designation would require more dry land as nests for the sparrow.
