Klamath River dam operator challenges fish ladders

PacifiCorp, the operator of four dams on the Klamath River, is challenging a federal directive to install fish ladders that would help salmon.

The company says the $250 million cost of the project would hurt its operation and may not help the salmon. The company says a $100 million alternative to trap the salmon and truck them around the dams may work instead.

Tribes in northern California and southern Oregon have sought the removal of the dams.
