Klamath Tribes reject proposal to restore land base
Wednesday, October 15, 2003

The Klamath Tribes of Oregon won't accept a proposal that would take land away from private owners in order to restore the tribe's original reservation.

The tribes are working with the Bush administration to restore their land base and secure water rights. The Bush proposal would return 1,000 square miles of a national forest to the tribes.

But the Oregon Natural Resources Council, a conservation group, is opposing the idea. The group proposed buying land from private owners and returning it to the tribe.
