New Mexico fights Navajo power plant approval
The state of New Mexico wants the Environmental Protection Agency to reconsider its approval of an air permit for the Navajo Nation's proposed power plant.

The state says the EPA failed to consider several issues when it approved the air permit for the Desert Rock Energy Project . The tribe plans to build a $2.5 billion coal-fired power plant near Shiprock.

The state, tribal activists and environmental groups are challenging to the EPA's decision. The case is being handled by the Environmental Appeals Board in Washington, D.C.

The coal-fired power plant is a venture between the tribe and Sithe Global Power of Texas. The tribe says the project will generate jobs and revenue.
