Former Rep. Ney seeks alcohol treatment in prison
Thursday, January 11, 2007

Former Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio), the only member of Congress convicted in connection with the Jack Abramoff scandal, has asked for alcohol treatment while he serves his prison term.

Ney is due to be sentenced January 9. Federal prosecutors are asking that he serve about 29 months for accepting bribes in exchange for legislative favors for Abramoff's tribal and non-tribal clients.

When he pleaded guilty, Ney cited his alcohol addiction and checked into a rehabilitation center. Completing a prison treatment program could reduce his overall sentence, the Associated Press reported.
