Navajo veterans excited about 'Extreme Makeover'
Thursday, April 14, 2005

Navajo veterans and their families are excited that ABC program "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will construct a new home for the Navajo Nation Veterans Office.

A crew of 300 already began work on the new veterans center. The facility is located in Tuba City, Arizona, the home of Lori Piestewa, the Hopi woman who was killed in action in Iraq.

The center is the second surprise the show unveiled this week. A new home is being built for Piestewa's family, including the two young children she left behind, in Flagstaff.

The project is being sponsored by the Hopi Tribe, the Navajo Nation and the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians of California. A blessing will occur at the home site this morning, The Arizona Republic reported.

Tribal leaders are taping spots for the show. National Congress of American Indians President Tex Hall and former Navajo Nation President Peterson Zah are due in Flagstaff today.
