Yellow Bird: Let's get serious about global warming
Monday, November 3, 2003
"Is this the beginning of the big melt - global warming?
Experts who study the subject agree that the world is warming. Old records from the late 1800s showed a warming trend then, too, but those records were unreliable because people paid little attention to global warming then. In 1957, reliable data were gathered that indicated a surface warming trend. In the 20th century, the 10 warmest years all were after 1980. The three warmest years were after 1990, and 1998 was the hottest year of all. What I remember about 1998 is it was the year after the big 1997 flood in Grand Forks. We had lots and lots of snow and a fast melt."
